Is my kiwi dead?

I bought a kiwi last year from Wilkos and planted it up in a large container.
It put on some growth, climbing up its canes to about 3ft.

In the spring it woke up, and was looking healthy, but after a few weeks all the leaves just disappeared, maybe a cold snap.

I keep an eye on it, and I often see a bud turning green and looks like a leaf will grow, but then these buds just disappear.

I have scraped a bit of bark off, and it is green underneath, but it just does not seem to want to grow?

Any ideas?

Kiwi's are tough growers and it is quite likely that it will still sprout and grow.
There is 3 things that are the usual reasons for damage....slugs, snails and frost. Though in case of frost you would see blackened bits still on plant.
To me sounds like very hungry creepy crawlies..

I know mine is but your seems like it has like in it yet!
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

I asked someone to spray a lot of my two plots with roundup because they were out of control after I had very painful rib damage from a fall on my own stairs last year......I was really sad that I had not warned him about my new kiwi planted among the nettles, intended to scramble through a tall overgrown hedge alongside one of my plots. Of course it drooped and withered. My fault.

But parts of it have survived and are sprouting vigorously at last, only recently. Not as vigorously as an identical plant I  put into my daughter's allotment which is twining as planned along a railway fence - but I think it will survive. Good luck to yours. They seem to be very strong plants.

Had a look at my daughter's kiwi today and it is rampant along the railway fence, really vigorous.  Mine, after the dose of roundup, is still sulking, but has some healthy growth here and there, and I think will survive. I agree that they have the will to live. Not expecting fruit this year, but maybe my daughter's will flower and fruit.....we'll see.

As long as it's showing some sort of growth, it'll recover eventually.
