I have very long grass on the paths on both sides of my allotment.  Think that the lady that left said it was her path, they have since split her allotment into 3 smaller ones, and she tried to cut it but as she was old and partially sighted, OH (when in a good mood, which is not often) cut it and the other side with a motor mower.  I have been trying to cut both sides with blunt shears  :BangHead:  Have told the 3 allotments on one side that the path is their responsibility, but not sure if that is correct and my lovely allotment friend is getting someone to do that side. The other side I will have a go at today. It doesn't seem fair that I should be landed with both sides, but maybe the mistake was for OH to do both with the motor mower originally, but now he seems to have given up.  No more strawberry jam for him.

Is there not a site convention which the council set up?

On our site the normal convention is that you are responsible for the path which is to the north of you and the path which is to the east of you.

If you have no neighbour to the west and / or to the south, e.g. you are on the edge of the site, you are also responsible for those path(s) as well.

We have a site map which clearly shows which paths each plot holder is responsible for.

We do not have such a thing either, at least not until I instigated one!

How I did this was;

I told the tenant to stand at the entrance to their plot and then said that the path to their left is their responsibility!

I guess this is OK for the layout of our site.

Having said that; I could  imagine that with most sites a similar arrangement could be made by either by choosing left, right,top or bottom as the datum.

At least it is something for you to think about!

Things like that can cause stress, allotments are supposed to be stress free (unless your peas wont germinate)  :sad10:  Solution.... buy a petrol strimmer,  regularly strim  paths concerned, sit back with a smile on your face thinking  what a good boy/girl am I.

Just one more polytunnel, just one more chicken coop.
Just one more allotment.

I think that makes sense Tee Gee.  The path on the left is probably mine, so will try and get that under control.  Margaret the previous allotment holder always said my right (her left) was her path, but we cut it for her, as she was old, but now I am old.  It is split into three now, so two strong men and one younger lady, so think it is fair that they do it.  No problem, one man (new this year to the middle allotment) even asked me if I minded him cutting it. The paths are not really paths any more but waist high grass and weeds.  I would willing do it, but petrol and machines don't mix with me, I am a lady (pretty old now), and pick flowers, produce and make jam. (joke), just trying to work out my new electric/battery tooth brush, so think I would be a disaster with a motor mower/strimmer whatever.  No-one is upset, we all get on, but have this lovely dream of the allotment being weed free (dream on) but the allotment at the end of mine is so overgrown, he only came up once last year, and not at all this year, so you can imagine the weeds.  Sometimes I feel it is too much for me. Well if the paths are sorted I can concentrate on the actual allotment.
Photo enclosed of one allotment that has not been worked due to ill health, and he was a lovely man, must break his heart not to be able to do it, or have to give it up.
