I have some aubergines that I planted from seed, which are looking a bit pathetic.  By that I mean not very sturdy (but I've never grown them before).
They're about 2" tall, very thin.  Do you think I can put them in an unheated greenhouse?  They don't get much light at home, which I thicnk may be why they are so spindly.
0n the other hand, courgettes look like triffids, and chillies going well.
There is always so much to do.  But it's so exciting, - can't wait to start harvesting (impatient,me, never!!)

Aubs like it to be humid. I've put pop bottle cloches over half of mine and they are twice the size of the other lot (and not at all leggy). Much bigger leaves too.
gone to pot :D

thanks for replying so swiftly.  Is that a yes?  They're still in seed trays so I could stick the plastic covers back on, what do you think.

I don't know about greenhouses, don't have one. Mine are on the windowsill, in 2-3in pots. But I would've thought they'd be safe in the greenhouse now. (anyone?) Maybe time to prick out too?

I grew mine in an unheated greenhouse last year, they did really well, i have heard they need humid air, but i didn't worry about that!  They sill grow (I had about 5 plants).

Never thought about humidity - except to keep down red spider mite.

At 2", I would have them potted up into 3-4" pots. Ours are in an unheated 'house. But with a bit of bottom heat - which they like. But being very slow this year.

Thanks all, this'll be my next next job.

Lady of the Land

Can someone tell me at what height they should be before pinch out tip, mine are approx 18cm but not leggy.

Thank you

Gadfium

I read that they like humidity, too. So I've put a smallish plastic container - filled with water - in the greenhouse, & placed the aubergines, in their 3" pots, around the edges... hopefully they will get the benefits of evaporation.

Mrs Ava

I didn't pinch mine out last year and I did okay.  Would be interested to hear what people say about this.
