RobinOfTheHood

Down in the lottie this morning with my 2 kids, we heard a blackbird making a helluva racket.
I told the kids it was worried about its chicks, but as hard as we looked, we could see no young blackbirds.

Anyway, went back down minus kids this afternoon, and had to unlock the garage (which is on the allotment) to get some tools, and two young blackbirds were sitting on the racking. The garage has one vent-sized hole in it, which they must have got in through, and they couldn't get back out.

So I opened the big doors and one flew out to freedom, and the other one eventually flew out of the small door, straight into the shed, where it was trapped again!

Must like hiding places, that one....anyway, I chased it out and all was well.

I also had a robin within a couple of feet of me. A good day. :)
I hoe, I hoe, then off to work I go.

Fantastic pictures Roy, out of interest , do Blackbirds tend to nest in hedges?

supernan

Ah how lovely. My nest is a hedge sparrow, I think, hard to get a picture as its in the middle of a very prickly bush. Not hatched yet.

Supernan!!

Yellow Petals

Oh Roy, these pics are fantastic.  I do hope you can do another scarlet pimpernel and grab some other shots as they get a little older.

Honeybee, yes Blackbirds nest mainly in the hedges :)

:-[ Sorry being a novice, it's a Pyracantha growing up the wall near our front living room, not sure if it's a bush or a hedge, its very thorny :o the nest is centre screen not that you can see it.

These birds work their butts off, I have a CCTV Camera covering our front garden and I have been watching them flying off almost into the dark of night in search of food, I thought it was the early bird that catches the worm? not in the case of the Blackbird it isn't. :P

I will try and keep you updated, but my wife has warned me to keep well away when Mum & Dad are at home. :o

Thanks Roy, its interesting to see the nesting place from that angle.

Fab piccies.

Isnt it wonderful how they make those lovely little nests? ;D Hubby cant even put shelf up!  ::)  lol.  ;D
A friend is someone who thinks you are a good egg,
even though you are slightly cracked.

Here’s an update on the Blackbird family there are at least four babies in there, aren't’e they cute. ;D

Great photo's Roy, out of interest what camera are you using and was it in any sort of closeup mode.
The blackbirds are nestinmg in my neighbours hedge this year. The reason you see them so late in the evening is it is only the Blackbird and Robin that can actually see at low light levels all the other birds are roosting. They are also the first birds you see at dawn. They must be exhausted with all that feeding by the end of the day?

;) Thanks for that info Chriszog, I never new that ;) the camera is a Kodak DX 3600 with Digital zoom although I have not sussed out how to use it yet ::) I did use a close up setting from the menu in these shots. ;)

Sorry that my aim was was not true but the nest is above head height and those thorns are very very sharp :o

honeybee

MagpieDi

Good news Roy.  Hope they come along nicely.

I got bad news on the Blackbirds today.  Me and Ted next door have shared two Blackbird nests and one of the Females was killed against my conservatory window this morning.   :o :o :o

:( Oh what a wicked shame :( I wonder if Dad will continue feeding them? I do hope so, they work their little butts off them Blackbirds you know, dusk til dawn :'(

Carol

Oh I know they do.  I am giving them a big hand as well!!! Soaked Bread, soaked raisons, oats.  Think we have 3 pairs going back and forwards to the nests, and off course the male blackbirds are fighting in between times. I think their nests are all too close together so they are in each others territories.  I know there is 2 blackbird nests in one hedge just 3ft apart, but thats one of the females gone so I am scared to look, really am....  It will upset me so wont.  There is also a Thrush nesting in the same hedge but she hasnt ventured near my garden.

MagpieDi

Any news Roy ?  Have you seen them hopping around the garden looking for a juicy worm for brekkers ?   ;D
