Our on went back to Hull for his final year and we took our elder daughter to Sheffield to start her first year. We still have our younger daughter for a few more years, but the house is very quiet today. It's a real mix of feeling excited for them and sad for us. Anyone else feeling the same this weekend? On the other hand I do have plans to use their bedrooms to keep my plants warm over the winter!

Not quite the same, but my house is very quiet AND TIDY because my 14 year old daughter has been on her Duke of Edinburgh bronze expeditition all weekend!

We were talking about this at work the other night as several of my colleagues are in the same position as you Caroline, won't be long before mine are off........don't know whether i'll be upset or relieved!! :-\
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I can certainly list some positives- less washing & ironing, less mess around the house, less worrying about where they are and what they are doing, less taxi-driving, I've got my car back..... not sure it makes up for their absence, though!  :-\

I know just how you feel, i went through it three years ago, but now my son is the proud owner of a Law degree and has just returned :o to the nest....lol, not sure which is scarier, him leaving or him returning  ;)

when my daughter, our second, left home, she came back 12 months later with a husband and a baby on the way
now there's just the two of us, I miss the mess  ;D  especially the two lads, they live quite a distance away..mind you, when we all get together, it's magic  :)

Funny, Saturday OH was working till 3 am, Youngest at 15 was out with her mates, and eldest dissapeared into her bedroom with her new laptop chatting to who knows who, and I felt bereft........................I also sat there, just me and the TV and thought, I need to get a life now they are growing up!!
I am dreading them leaving for good! :'(
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

I guess I am very lucky. When we lost Charlie I thought I would be lonely, even nearly 5 years later there is very seldom a day goes by when I don't see 1 or 2 or 3 or sometimes all 4  children. :)  If John doesn't see me on line he either phones or pops in, today I picked Josh up from school and when I got back John was sitting outside in his van waiting for me. I also have the benefit of Lorna and Joshua living next door. It has happened a few times that one of them has phoned me, got no answer, and then they phoned each other to find out where I am ;D. Prink will confirm that when I visited her for the first time Lorna rang me to find out where I was. I said I told you I was visiting a friend. She answered "Yes but you told me you would be home when I got home from work!!"
Lorna.
