Onion Sets, better in the bag or in the soil?

Hi everyone,

I have a few bags of onion sets and was wondering whether it is best to plant them soon or wait until march time.  If I do wait until march time then my book recommends keeping them somewhere cool and light to stop them sprouting whereas I would have thought somewhere cool and dark.

What are you doing?

Many thanks...

I think(?) they may start sprouting  in the dark.

Hiya,

So long as your soil doesn't get water logged then you shoud be fine to plant them straight out now, all mine went out early Feb last year and were fine.

If you decide to store, then treat them as you would seed spuds, cool and light...NOT direct sun.
