Finally got the coop finished and 3 hens have now moved in...

Got three Warrens on Sunday morning from Southmead Poultry, in Fetcham. Great birds and lovely place well worth a trip if your after some Hybrids as they have such a great selection and prices are good.

Thanks KT,

Yes... been a while, but I sure have missed them..

Shame I don't have the space to keep all the breeds I used to have, if anything it's my Peafowl I miss the most.

Still I guess a few hybrid layers is better than none at all  ;)

Hi,
It looks really good.   :)
Can I ask what you think of the coop?  We have been looking at one just the same to get at home, so I'd be really interested to here your opinion.
I might extend the run a bit, and we'd allow the chickens out when we can.  We are also thinking of getting 3 hens, so would like to know if it can accommodate's them ok?  What is access like for cleaning them etc.

Cheers

We have that coop too and it's smaller than I imagined. Having said that we have 4 ex batts in there and they are happy in the house and hen box and we've more than doubled the run provided.  I'd prefer something bigger  but it's my fault for not checking the measurements before buying!  ::)  Don't get me wrong it's fine for the chickens, I have no worries about it being too small for them but it's a pain having to crawl in to put the food and water further into the run.  Particularly as we extended it and didn't think to put a door at the other end!!!  ::)

What a set up! Wouldn't dare show your pictures to my girls for fear that they might elope to Quarter Acre. Respect!

lovely set up !   so they are Warrens !   they are exactly the same as mine (same house too) I had thought that they were a kind of hybrid Rhode island red !

Smileyk - I also extended the run without allowing access !!   it is annoying crawling around in there ! lol

But I wish i had got the large eglu now and perhaps wouldnt have the red mite problem !!
You always love your children more than they love you...

We got two more hens on Saturday, so we now have 5 Warrens... latest two are from the same place and also the same batch.
All are thankfully doing well and I'm hoping it won't be long now before they come in to lay  ;)

Also today we decided to purchased a larger hen house to replace the coop that we have inside the pen...

The hens should now have a lot more room, perching space + an extra nest box :) as this house is supposed to be suitable for 10 large hens.

The current coop will move to the back of the allotment by the shed and will probably end up housing a broody in the spring, that will be loaned in from a friend so I can set a few hatching eggs.

You have done a great job there. The problem with poultry is that it is a very addictive hobby...........first 3 hens now 5.......................it will be 10 by the spring! ;D

I started with 4 now have 10 ::)
Love my hens and all that's henny!

I know what you mean.. just had a reply from someone local who has a POL Cochin and a POL Buff Orp.

If the prices are ok, that will make it up to 7 :)

we have a simlar coop  we basically  asked someone to copy the one (like urs) from an picture on ebay and he did copy is BUT  he made it sooo small  the guys down at the lottie laffed at us  and said dont put more than 2 birds in there i was guttered as i payed the guy £100 and told him i want it like this but big enough for 10 birds and that what i got its very nice looking but not what i wanted.
So now we have the new lottie we just bought a big shed for our birds and now hope to get more.

Hi L.G.B.

The new house was £93.01 + £26.00 postage from eBay, I got it from the same company as the first coop...

On eBay just search: Delux Poultry 002 ;) they do a Buy It Now for £119.99 but they start as an auction at 99p ;)
my purchase was a second chance offer so don't bid over £95.00 LOL

Best regards,

Zoolad
