Beech hedge.

Daughter is thinking about a copper beech hedge. How far apart do they need to be & where is the best place to get them from, mail order or nursery?

I can recommend these people as I had used them before in the last house.
They have been on my list of good web sites and info for the native gardening for a long time.

The nursery is well kept and they have many varieties for the novice through to the experienced horticulturist.

The information they give is sound and very helpful.

plant a double staggered row with each plant in a row between one and two feet apart, or three feet if its a long hedge.
buy bare root transplants in the autumn, dont worry how tall they are, you want fibrous roots and cut the stems down to about 12" tall, this gives a good root to shoot ratio to establish them quicker, and makes them branch low down so you wont  have one of those bald leggy hedges with bushiness only at the top.
