I can sympathise with all points of view, but really am with daitheplant at the end of the day, and especially - and I hate to say this but having youngsters myself this phrase crops up a lot in our household - I personally think that you need to set a good example to the family.  No bad feelings intended.

Also, if you did decide to keep the money, you are not out of the woods yet as most companies' computer systems run accounting jobs at the end of the month, at which point this discrepancy might come to light again.

The problems with this is that you can find yourself spending a significant amout of money ringing premium rate phone lines trying to put right someone else's mistake.

But I would not be happy keeping the dosh which is why I would dump it on a charity and move on.

I would like to think I would send the money back, especially if kids are involved. When the wii first came out I got Ant one for Xmas. At this point it was the main Xmas present and I ended up going to the store at a ridiculous time in the morning to actually get one (not usually into doing that, but really did want one). Anyway after a load of hassle I did manage to get one. I then found out that Ant had done the same thing so we had 2! People were selling these for 3 or 4 times the cost at this point. We sold ours at the price we had bought it to a collegue at work who couldn't get hold of one.

I would have to tell them and then enjoy the rightious glow.  If you just keep it you would always be expecting a comeback

Show me and I might remember
Involve me and I,ll understand

I've thought about this in the last 24hrs (too much time on my hands in this wet weather)and I truly couldn't keep it.

Doing the right thing always feels better  :)

I would tell them but also I would 'bill' them for the time and cost it took for trying to sort THEIR mistake out ::) Now, after pointing that out it could well be that it will be too much hassle and not cost effective anymore for them to get the money back. So with a bit of luck..you might end up with money, apology and 'clean' feeling for sorting things out ;D
Worth of try ;)

I think I'd have to try & give it back. At least email them back & point out the error. If they choose not to follow it up then fair enough, keep it, but I'd have to try.

Yes I agree with the others, ok, maybe a couple of quid mistake, you could just keep your gob shut, as that happens to everyone now and again. But 200£... That's a lot of money really, I think you will feel bad about it, not to mention that someone might lose their job over the amount. Try again to explain to someone what happened, even if you just write a letter.

Whatever you choose to do with the money, I suspect a worker is far more likely to get into trouble if a customer alerts the company to the error! At present, they are not aware that anyone has made a mistake.

Keep it if youre skint, give the money to charity if you can afford to. They might catch up with their error when they come to do their end of year accounts though, so I'd hang onto it for a few months before getting rid of it.

I would keep the money to one side for 30 days and if you hear nothing and can afford to then stick 1/2 in each of the girls bank accounts towards there futures.

I've kept two before and I'd do it again, the one thing I didn't do was broadcast it on the internet, too many do gooders out there, you know it makes sense.    :-X :-X :-X
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
