Christmas Dinner

Went down to the plots to harvest some sprouts for the Christmas dinner and picked these. One each for us, my son & my daughter;



Had a look around and noticed these;

Winter Density lettuce that I am trying for the first time to see how I go on.



Plus I noticed my Chrysant stools seem to be raring to go....pity I an not yet!



This Pelargonium is looking very festive;

Not happy about that, they look a million times better than mine :(



New one, or a "maintained one"? I managed to keep last year's alive through Winter and got it growing well through the Summer - I wanted a HUGE one in the house this Christmas.  Got to November and it curled up its toes :(  Probably too cold ... and just as I was about to start adjusting its daylight hours - perhaps it committed Hara Kiri at the thought of being suffocated in a bin liner for a couple of months?!

well Christmas Day is sorted and traditional, but goodness Boxing day and several days beyond is extremely fishy, and crustaceany, I just realised

Is there a secret to getting big sprouts - mine are always tiny, tasty but tiny?  I get good growth throughout the season but they don't "finish" well.  A feed up towards the end of the season perhaps or is it down to variety?

I think it is in the variety plus if it is an open pollinated variety or F1 hybrid.

Over the years I have tried many and have had varying results, I now stick to F1's for all of my brassicas as you usually get what it says on the packet!

That guarantee makes it worth the extra cost in my book

I like this one 'Maximus' it certainly grows well for me as you can see!

Apart from sweet corn sprouts are the only F1 I buy for the same reason . Also they seem to be sweeter without a hard frost.
